Also, what is your favorite part of teaching this grade?

  1. I prefer 9th grade.  They can be the most difficult, most obnoxious, and most immature group in the high school.  But, the greatest changes can also occur in this group.

  2. I teach electives which means I usually get all grades.

I don't think it matters to me which grade I get as far as attitude of the kids, it is an individual basis kind of thing.

I do know that as far as my program I like to get Sophomores and Juniors.

  3. I've taught grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.  My favorite is 12th grade because I love British lit and term papers and older students that I can actually talk to and who "get" my sarcastic wit without being offended.

I like grades 7 and 8 because they are finally getting some freedom and are still a little intimidated, so you can usually get them to do what you want.

Grades 9 and 10 are difficult because this is the age when they want to quit school, but may not be 16 yet, so they are just there waiting to get out.  They could care less about their own education and don't care if they interrupt others' education either.

I do NOT like 11th grade because it's American lit. and I'd just as soon someone hit me with a big stick as to have to teach that!

  4. I taught 8-12. I prefer 12th because it is a challenge and I love getting students ready for college, especially with open questions because college has you writing a lot. Also because except for the ACTs, you do not have to worry about state tests and the State Department of Education breathing down your neck as much.

8th Graders go through puberty a little and have a tendency to think that they are grown and do not want to do anything. It's like half and half with them- one minute they're babies, the next, they're adults.

9th Grade is a pretty decent grade to teach. They follow directions better and are somewhat interested in what they learn. You just gotta keep them entertained.

    10th Grade- enough said.

11th Grade is not as bad. They're just like 12th Grade only a little more rowdy but more focused.

Basically, it depends on the person and the school.
