  1. Queen Elizabeth. She came from a rather humble beginning. I know that she was a princess BUT her mother was Anne Boleyn and she did have her lovely head chopped off.

What I really like and admire about her is that she was a strong woman in a time when there was really no such thing. She kept to her beliefs and didn't let the men around her or the church for that matter really dictate how she lived or what she did.

She ruled her country as good as a man and she was had many lovers in life at a time when that was rather frowned upon.

  2. FDR, because he brought the U.S. out of the Great Depression through the sheer might of his will power and brilliance of his imagination. Many of his programs are still around today, still being heavily relied upon by millions of people.*

  3. Smedley Darlington Butler.  A popular WWI hero, he was approached by a well-financed group that felt FDR was too socialist in his leanings.  They proposed that Butler lead the American Legion in a coup d'etat against FDR.  Butler gathered as much evidence as he could and ratted them out to the US Senate.  No one was ever prosecuted.  Had they chosen someone of lesser character, we'd all be goose-stepping with Adolph's chosen people.

  4. Julius Ceasar.  Especially admire that he achieved so much, at such an advanced age, despite his epilepsy; but even more that he was an inclusive kind of democrat - wanted to include Gauls, who he just conquered, in Roman senate...Had this kind of plan of bringing conquered peoples into government gone on, who knows how much longer empire would have lasted?
