Going to Puerto Plata instead of Punta Cana this year. Punta Cana has gained a lot of popularity so the airfare is about $100 - $150 more than Puerto Plata - traveling with my 11 year old as a single parent. I've heard great things about both hotels

  1. I just sent a group of 10 college kids to Riu Bachata in early June , they loved the resort and had a great time . I got them a package for 4 nights/5days flying from NYC for $613 each , that's all inclusive ! Riu has a casino on the property , a nice beach , great rooms and you can also use the facilities at the other RIU resort in Puerto Plata , just a short shuttle bus ride away , so it's like staying at 2 resorts instead of 1 ! If you would like my help , email me ( gerry@snapshottravelagency.com ) with some details ( exact dates , departure airport , approximate budget , preferences - as far as what you are looking to do or avoid on this trip , etc. ) and I will be happy to get you the best deal possible for your trip ( my vendor has a " match & beat " policy ) . If you liked Punta Cana , you will surely enjoy Puerto Plata . Best regards , Gerry Donnelly , Snapshot Travel

  2. Iberostar Costa Dorado is rated #1 resort by tripadvisor.com travelers.

Here is a link to unbaised reviews and candid photos. Your 11 year old will love it. Good for you too.

    Enjoy)

  3. Well, I think that Iberostar is a bit better than the Riu Bachata, and is not that isolated from town ( 10 min with public bus).
