  1. Cabbage, lightly steamed and seasoned

  2. cabbage, it'll add texture

  3. When in doubt, add both of them! Seriously, I think they both add alot of flavor and I wouldn't think of choosing one over the other.

  4. Cabbage goes better with broth and barley.  It is what would traditionally have been used with them.  However it's a question of personal taste.  Which do you prefer the taste of?

I would always add tinned tomatoes to a soup or stew because I adore them, but that's my personal taste.  If you added tinned tomatoes and spinach, then sweetcorn and peppers would be nice too - they go well with squash and mushrooms.

If you add a legume to the barley then you will have a complete protein.  Puy lentils or black lentils look pretty in soups - they're little and hold their shape.  Although big beans add a nice bite.

  5. can you put both in?  if not, cabbage is better in soup.

  6. Spinach. Why not add both and maybe some broccoli, lentils, paprika, and cumin?

  7. Spinach sounds better.  Cabbage can sometimes overpower the taste of other veggies, especially mushrooms
