  1. Trumpet is the best when it splayed in a New Orleans style jazz, but other then that I'd go with the Sax, ecspecially Tenor sax. Trombone is a also a good jazz instrument but not the best. Electric Bass is also a great jazz instrument.

  2. tenor sax has a much deeper sound. As for which instrument is best, that is completely in the eye of the beholder. However, for upbeat jazzy songs like "In the Mood", the trumpet will definitely get the most prominent part in most songs.

  3. all 3 of those instruments are VERY important when it comes to playing jazz music. not one instrument is more important than another.

have you played an instrument before? if so, was it a brass or woodwind instrument? because if you have prior experience with playing an instrument, it's easier to play an instrument in the same "category" as the instrument you've already played. (ie: play saxophone if you've played a woodwind instrument, and play trombone/trumpet if you've played brass instrument)

i can't really tell you which one you should play, but i would give trumpet or saxophone a  try. don't get me wrong, i love trombones! but i enjoy playing the sax. and i wish i could play trumpet. so those are the 2 i would pick!

  4. If I were taking up jazz I would pick either the trumpet or the sax. Both instruments rock and they're more popular then the other instruments in some cases. Also, saxes tend to have the solo parts more often in jazz. There really is no difference between the alto and tenor sax other then the size and maybe a couple fingerings and air speed. Just simple stuff like that. Good luck!

  5. I'll go ahead and tell you that I'm slightly biased because I play sax, but saxophone is really fun in jazz. In "In the mood" the melody is in the sax section. Alto sax is smaller than tenor and has a higher range. I've played both, and I think that it is easier to start playing on an alto and then switch to tenor later once you have learned to play. Trumpet and trombone have some fun jazz parts too, but sax is my personal favorite.
