  1. A rain gauge (also known as an udometer or a pluviometer [fluviograph] or a cup) is a type of instrument used by meteorologists and hydrologists to gather and measure the amount of liquid precipitation (as opposed to solid precipitation that is measured by a snow gauge) over a set period of time.

Most rain gauges generally measure the precipitation in millimeters. The level of rainfall is sometimes reported as inches or centimeters.

  2. hi....

You can use any solid cone as long as it does not absorb water.

Rainfall is assumed to be even across the cross-sectional surface area of the container, then you can just use a ruler to measure the height of the rainfall that fell into te container.

  3. A pluviometer of course. I'm fourteen years old, I'm belgian and I even know the scientific name of the object where (the amount) of rainfall is measured with. And for the person above, the rainfall is measured in millimeters per square meter. A udometer is to measure the amount of H2O itself in the rain, not for the rainfall.
