Thinking about getting health insurance and don't want to get anything that would be refused by a hospital or doctor. I'm very ignorant to the whole health insurance thing, never had it growing up and never went to hospital, still don't, but have a toddler and a wife with one on the way, so might want to get some insurance. Anyone feel free to offer advise on what they think is best.

  1. ~~Insurance varies so much due to different state laws that I don't think there is a average answer. Look for the best coverage you can afford for the best premium. Any insurance companies you are interested in, ask for their provider network list. You will get a great idea how many doctors are within their panels then. The two most common types of insurance are PPO's and HMO's. PPO's are give you the most freedom in picking doctors, but have deductibles and usually higher office copays. HMO's are more economical, usually no deductibles, however your primary care doctor manages all your healthcare needs, so you must see the PCP before you can see a specialist or have a procedure to obtain an authorization. That's quick basic info in insurance that can help you get started on choosing a great plan.~~

  2. You want to go with a ppo/network type plan.  Any plan that your hospital is participating with is a good start.

Just deal with a health insurance broker to help you find a plan.  It'll be different in every state.

  3. Any insurance associated with blue cross blue sheild is considered the cadilac of insurance.

I have Security Blue HMO and it is great.
