Question:

Which insurance company actually insures pet rats?

Hi there,

I have been looking through lots of websites and cannot find any companies that insure rats. The closest I have got is for rabbit's and chinchillas.

I bought my rats a week ago and know they can suffer from various common ailments so I thought about getting them both insured.

Is it actually worth insuring rats, as I really want to secure their future health and don't want them to suffer.

Can anyone please help me.

Thanks

  1. Don't waste your money on pet insurance. It's better to just set money aside, for ''vet bills".

Find the best small animal vet you can, locally. Bring them in for a Wellness visit, so the vet can see them while they're healthy. It'll let the vet know, in future visits if/when they're sick, if they've lost weight, or changed in appearance/posture.

You'll end up paying more in ''dues'' to the insurance, than you may end up needing for your rat(s) medical care.

  2. Try the R.S.P.C.A, they do insurance.

  3. Exoticdirect.co.uk

I previously had rats and was always told that if they ever got ill (touch wood), that they will never be able to make it through as they are such small creatures.

Both my rats got phnumonia and didnt survive.

Just have to try and care for them the best that you can during their lives but I doubt pet insurance will help at all.

  4. Im really sorry and realise this is probably serious, but im in tears laughing at this question! its both cute how you asked, and funny.

Im in australia, we dont normally insure rats here!

  5. try direct line (i think its directline.com).

but the best advice i can give you, is for you to go to a vets and ask there.

they have usually got leaflets you can have which advertise pet insurance. I'm sure they have got one for a rat, the same as they might have for exotic pets and animals like a tortoise.

its worth a try, after all they are the specialists.
