The best. And Machells Patisary (Spelling!!!!!) is good as well. For once, national chains are the best at something other than Suppermakets!

  7. The cheesecake shop is good.  It is convenient for those who want a cake right now.  The cakes are pretty good I have to say.  It takes all the hassle out of ordering cakes and hoping and praying that they don't forget to make it for you, since I am terrible at baking.  That's happened to me before for my five year olds birthday.  That's why I'm a cheesecake shop convert.  i know that there are other places that make beautiful home made cakes but I would have to say for all round service and reliability that they are brilliant.

  8. Darbys Pies in Newcastle! They have some of the best custard tarts i have ever eaten... and believe me i've eaten a few. they also have apple pies and the other usual pastries.

  14. I would definitely have to say Beechworth Bakery which is in Beechworth, Victoria. They offer the most delicious assortment of cakes and buns and all sorts of savoury delights too. They also have a great range of drinks to choose from too with tea and coffee being unlimited once you buy the first cup. The Bakery itself is a wonderful place to visit and relax and can cater for over 150 people which is good because it is always very busy.

  17. C'est si Bon in Dover Road, Rose Bay 2029.  It really is so good.  A genuine French patisserie and bakery doing things in true French style.  The owners Laurent and Nadia are from Alsace and remain true to the traditions.  The bread, cakes and home-made chocolates are superb.  Here you can buy real baguettes and croissants as well as cakes and pastries and good coffee.  I have not found  a better cake shop anywhere in Australia.  Try the passion fruit cake, apple slice, raspberry tarts, quiche ………

  26. I would have to say that the best cake shops are in Melbourne's Acland Street !! There are so many awesome cakes, and another fabulous thing about Acland street in St Kilda is that there's always something great to do - like the Sunday markets!! 28. An answer to this question can really only be successful if it involves a cake shop that is either visited by tourists from all over Australia or its a Franchise.

No doubt there are many fine small business cake shops that would perform to a very high standard in a Bake off, but for the purpose of this answer I would choose 'The Cheese cake shop'.

Why? Apart from Beechworth Bakery which many thousands of people have been to it and many more know of it, I can't see it stacking up against 'The Cheese cake shop' for the following reasons.

    1. Tens of thousands more repeat customers.

    2. You couldn't count the number of social events around Australia that have been a success because of their excellent cakes.

    3. Name another cake shop where their cakes are a talking point anywhere from the office to a work site to inside our home anywhere in Australia.

4.I have never heard anyone complain about one of their cakes. I have heard people say another small speciality shop makes a better particular type of cake but never across the board.

    5. It has shops all over Australia not just in one or two towns.

    6. And last but not least, I think it has a story to tell that most of us don't know about. Like who created it and who are the bakers in each store that are able to turn out day after day a high quality of product right across the country.

  29. This may sound crazy but I do know many restaurants and cafes in a small city that I live in who sneak into the local Woolworths Bakery for the Chocolate Mud Cake and Pecan Custard Pie!!!

Woolworths Bakery is highly under-rated and I can't specify which small city, ... if word gets out people may just stop paying $5.90 +++ for that slice of Woolworths cake.

(I was once in the industry and have always thought it cheating when I see shop owners take the wrapping off a Woolworths special and stick it in the cabinet!)

    Tastes great!

  30. Le Renaissance Patiserie - the one in Argyle St, The Rock, Sydney. their eclairs and their opera is BEAUTIFULLL.....

ughhh now i feel hungry :D

  31. I know I shouldn't say this, and I will probably get shunned from society for chosing a huge capitalist climber, but I would have to say the Cheesecake Shop. Sorry Ernie, I know it's probably not what you were after, but it's my favourite.
