  14. Hi Ernie,

Let me inform you of a little beaut pie shop attached to the side of the local Tavern in a very small town called Kirup. Kirup Is just roughly 2 hours southwest of Perth and is on the South West Highway (KIRUP DELI -South Western Highway, Kirup WA 6251

Phone: (08) 9731 6230) I have never been to Kirup for any other reason than to stop off for a pie on roadtrips down south, it has become like a ritual.. and seem's so for a lot of people coming from perth going down south.. (this little pie shop gets especially busy during motox season) They have very interesting home made pies ranging from your usual Beef or Chicken Casserol Pies to your more unique Lasagne or Mexican Nacho Pies..

This place is well worth the stop I usually buy a whole tray to take with me and freeze at home because they are sooo good.. and  if you are stopping for a pie it is also well worth a wander into the tavern and picking up a local brew called "Kirup Syrup" from the pub too.. But then again as I'm sure you know all local produce in W.A.'s Southwest taste's exceptionally great!

  15. Yatala Pies is south of Beenleigh in Queensland and gives everyone the chance to experience meat pie nirvana. The 'must visit' shortlist has to include The Quilpie Bakery at Quilpie in central QLD.

  18. Good question, i may just be curious enough to try some of these when we're travelling.

Anyway, Clemton Park, Sydney has wicked pies. Nice soft on the outside with perfect meat on the inside, no chunky ugly chewy bits just real nice and smooth.

h**l I've been hangin for one since i moved south, but we can't travel 6hours for a pie!

  19. The Addictive pie shop - North Haven

im from sydney and have eaten pies everywhere imaginable, these pies are the best, thin pasty and heaps of filling and its all chunky steak with no bits of fat whatsoever, these sauces are the best the Steak Dianne pie is to die for, and the Chicken Bacon and Cheese is the best, they have a big selection, all great value, this is the best pie shop in Australia

  20. i would have to say the one in benliegh queensland yatla pies

  21. yatala pies by far

ive been around aust a few times and never had better

  22. Kempsey pies, the shop used to be under the bridge heading north into town.

  23. I think that pies are a national dish to the extent of making them so widely made it would be impossible to pick  "best" pie shop. I think we have to be specific on the parameters of the competition also. The majority of Aussies eat a normal pie not these gourmet pies with all the fancy ingredients in them and 3 times the price. So to compare apple with apples, so to speak, the parameter of what an Aussie pie is must be made first.

If we are talking about your run of the mill pie with meat gravy and sauce, I don't think you would be abale to pick the best of because they are made by so many people and in so many ways, the winner would merely be a matter of taste and not so much one of quality. I think that the quality of most pies you would buy in Australia would be fairly even across the board.

I think the producers may have bitten off more than they can chew here, sorry. (no pun intended)

  24. Yatala Qld.

  25. Hi Ernie - Fredo pies in NSW near Kempsey is my pick. They have over 100 flavours including their famous Crocodile pie. 28. hi ernie

i would have to say that a harry's cafe de wheels pie peas and mash is a very good pie

also yatala pies are good but

you should try a meat pie from the beechworth bakery in victoria (not far from wodonga) they have got to be the best anywhere in australia

  29. I have not been to South Australia for many years but when I was last there I discovered the Crystal Brook Bakery in Crystal Brook.

    The sausage rolls are heavenly

    The pies to die for

    Mmmmmmm NOW ya talkin!!

  30. Hey Ernie!!

I swear the best pie i ever had was from Dreamworld, on the Gold Coast!! I am not kidding. It was pretty big for a single serve pie, I was full all afternoon!! The pastry was perfect, not too flaky and not too soft, the filling was nice and chunky and the steak was moist and tender. At $4, it was very well priced as well, considering the quality and the typical trend of theme park prices being sky-high. The tomato sauce was good too!

You could do a whole segment on dreamworld, it's just opened up some new attractions, and make a point of the pies. They're in the Gold Rush part of the park.

You're a legend mate, a true blue Aussie, and a funny bugger!!

  31. Villi's pies in Adelaide. Not only do they taste great, but Villi himself conducts tours of his bakery, just behind the shop. How many other pie shops would do that? It makes eating his pies and pasties more enjoyable, not less, when you see the ingredients. You can't say that about many pies.
