Which is Better TEFL or TESOL certificate?

Also where is best / cheapest organisation / site to do it. I need to do it completely online

  1. You can have either a TEFL or a TESOL certificate, and still not be able to teadh legally in Taiwan, Korea, or Japan--unless you have a degree from an accredited university (or at least a two-year diploma from one).  If you have a degree, schools will hire you with no TEFL or TESOL or anything.  Some people work illegally, but I do not recommend that.

    Taiwan, Korea, and Japan are the Asian countries that pay the best--but even PR China has just made a rule that they will not issue a work permit for any teachers who do not have degrees.

    Some companies have a little flutter going whereby, if you PAY to work for them, they will give you a certificate at the end of a certain period of time--and maybe a paid job too.

    Teaching English in Asia is a good gig--my wife and I have been doing it off and on for four years since 2001.  We have been living on the east coast of Taiwan for the last two years steady, and having a blast.
