  1. Muhhammed Ali.He changed the sport...His skills and showmanship as well his life and ups and downs....He gave the sport nothing seen before..he drew the largest crowds and fought some of the most momarable battles at the time when thecompetition was the by far the toughest....we'll remember ali 150 years after his death. Can any other boxer claim that?

  2. I'm sorry but sugar ray robinson was not the greatest of all time.Muhammed Ali was the greatest.here is why.ray robinson lost 19 fights in his career and most of them were decision loses.that means 19 times he got out boxed.he even lost the 7th fight of his career and half of those loses were to nobodies.ray robinson was a great fighter but not the best.

the reason why i say ali was the best was because look at his record.he was 56-5-0 and 3 of his loses came when he was old.so that means in his prime he lost only twice and that was to norton and frazier and he didn't get his @$$ kicked eather they were very close fights both in the top 5 greatest fights of all time and unlike robinson every boxer that beat ali was or became heavyweight champion.Ali also beat some great really great fighters like Sonny Liston twice,Floyd Patterson twice,Joe Frazier twice,Jerry Quarry twice,George Chuvalo twice,Henry Cooper twice,George Foreman,Ernie Shavers,Ken Norton,Ernie Terrell,Bob Foster, and Ron Lyle.no other boxer can say they beat a list of fighters like this.Muhammed Ali is and will always be the greatest of all time

  3. muhammad ali

  4. sugar ray robinson:

he was ali, and then some. he could box, punch, ko an opponent moving backwards, take a punch, dance, slip.

he used to attract crowds just to see him skip rope.......he turned it into an art form.

if he were fighting today, he would have won every title from jr welter to lightheavy.

he won the welter title, and then the middleweight title 5 times, just missing out on the 175 pound crown (all linear championships) been beaten by the searing heat which saw the ref been changed after the 10th round as he couldn't go on.

was 40-0 when he lost his first fight (to jake lamotta, who outweighed him by almost 16 pounds, and he beat lamotta 5 times).

ws 128-1-2 when he lost his second fight (to randy turpin), but robinson only fought 9 days before that fight, and may have been over trained or undertrained for that one.

was beating the best when he was pushing 40.

  5. I like Maurice's answer, great detail and true passion in the answer there, I see why he's a top contributor. Ok, the answer to the uestion now, there are two ways of skinning this cat. We could go by weight or go by boxers who revolutionised the sport. By weight would take all page so lets stick to the revolutionary. The best boxers in my view where. So before we start, I must declare that Sugar Ray Robinson is the best ever:

    1. Jack Dempsey - He made boxing a sport and not just a side show.

    2. Jack Johnson - He broke down barriers not only for other people of african origin but he also introduced a following to the sport.

    3. Ray Robinson - This man converted boxing from a barbarick practice into an art and sweet science. Good man too: Greatest boxer ever!

    4. Joe Luis - He set the standard for what all Champions would be remembered for, he reigned on a championship like Queen Elizabeth man. He was a gentleman and a good boxer too.

    5. Muhamed Ali - He brought charisma, lip service, big money, introduced the ladies to his fellowship, his stance against war has made sports a true movement against war and violence. Ali was a gentleman, a warrior and he turned boxing into a business too.

The best I saw fight: Sugar Ray Leornard, Marvin Hagler, Julio Cesar Chavez, Ro Jones jr, Mike Tyson b4 Don King days, Aaron Pryor, Pernell Whiteker and the great Salvador Sanchez

  6. this question has too much diversity to answer..everybody has opinions and those with the biggest opinions never stepped into a ring in their lives..for sheer ability then Im not sure myself and anyone who says one great was better than another at different weights only broadcast their ignorance...the guys that say sugar ray robinson probably when pushed would say marvin hagler would have beaten him(if they really thought about it)people tend to parrot others and repeat what they have heard...look up old film and make your own mind up that is the fun part there have been many many greats in the past...for the human aspect no one will be able to answer that as no one knew them all but just the same some will spout their unfounded beliefs..watch lots of old film and enjoy it is an awsome sport..

try putting them by weight division as who you think was best would be a good start

  7. Sugar Ray Robinson - a champion in the Golden Age of Boxing who had epic wars with any number of legends who have stood the test of time.

  8. Ali, of course.

Floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee.

It could have been Tyson, but after Cus D'Amato died, Don King got hold of him and things went downhill after that.

  9. ali simply the best made it look so easy and with such grace!
