  1. a little research on the web would have brought you to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_speed_...

  2. The French TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) is the fastest conventional train in the world, using powered metal wheels riding on metal rails. In April 2007, the TGV broke its own 1990 record with a new speed of 574.8 km/h (357.18 mph) under test conditions with a shortened train (two power cars and three passenger cars) ........ hope this helps ....... = )

  3. Sorry but your question is a bit too broad to answer easily.

The above answer is correct, because there are a lot of different ways to answer.

The fastest unmanned experimental train running on rails, although they dont use conventional wheels is well over 6000 miles an hour.

Do you mean on conventional steel rails?

Scheduled passenger service or strictly experimental?

  4. I have to agree with those above who say that your question is quite vague - do you mean an experimental train or a train travelling as it should, normally. Do you want a a Maglev train or a steel/iron rail train? Being a steel/iron rail purist, I will give the fine details.

The fastest train to grace steel rails is the French TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse, literally, Train of High Speed). In a special test run performed in Eastern France, a TGV double-decker unit attained a speed of 574.8 km/h (357.16 mph). In terms of train speed this is the fastest for a steel track. There are maglev trains which have gone faster but these are still at a purely testing stage. The TGV model which made this record currently runs on France's extensive high-speed rail network.

    Hope this has helped,
