I'm trying to decide between two hotels - as you may notice from my earlier questions ...

As staying inside paris would mean a great deal more money.... specially for a family. any suggestions on things to do and places to see - or avoid ...

Thanks

  1. Ibis Hotel Bagnolet - is just at the very limit of Paris - and the metro just besides - generally affordable - but the district is very anonymous and lacks "district atmosphere".

  2. I'm not really familiar with Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, though I've of course heard of it- located in the Val-de-Marne, mêtro line 7... I do however know Bagnolet. Neither town have overly flattering reputations, though when people describe these areas as "sketchy" or "dangerous", that's generally code for "My God, there are lots of people there who aren't white!" Bagnolet isn't dangerous, and I don't think that Le Kremlin-Bicêtre is either. However, as is generally the case with suburbs, they pale by comparison to Paris, so I doubt you'll be spending much time there other than to sleep. Library about to close- will try to edit this tomorrow.

  3. Neither area is dangerous but it simply makes no sense to stay in the suburbs.

I have no idea what search engine you've been using to find a hotel or what your criteria are but really, stay someplace in the centre that is perhaps not some cookie cutter, typical international style hotel with ice machines, mini bars and cable TV but which is convenient and has some actual local character.

I notice that the rack rate for the Novotel  Kremlin Bicetre is 205€ for a double. My favorite little hotel, the St. Andre des Arts, dead center in the middle of Paris has triples for 113 € and quads for 124 € (price includes all taxes and breakfast).
