Which is a better all inclusive resort vacation - punta cana DR or riviera maya Mexico?

for those who have been to both, which is better? i have been to punta cana twice and i like it quite well, the resorts are close to the airport, the people who work there are always friendly, too much so. and whats more, tips are NOT required for good service. when they say all inclusive, that means honestly you don't have to carry any money around. but i heard its not like that in riviera maya and if you want anyone to do anything for you you have to tip constantly. also most hotels are more expensive than punta cana and they are farther from the airport. how do you equate these two regions? should i bother to go to riviera maya or should i just repeat my DR vacation?

i would experience maya rivera mexico. If you already been to punta cana wouldn't you want to experience a new country? Maya rivera is a relaxing place and has great environment and does have nicer beaches. It should be worth the money and plus theirs the acient mayan civilization statues and pyramids you could experience. As for tipping, you don't have to, but its appriciated. The people that work their live in a poor environment and a dollar tip should be enough & make them happy. I've been to both.  I would go to Mexico if i were you!  it's soooo beautiful. the beaches are way better there too.  U don't have to tip there either if ur going on an all incluisive that's 3- 4 stars or more.  I've been to riviera maya mexico & i loooove it - never had probs with havin g to tip!  i just came bk from there in april of this year (2008).The people are sooo nice & way more friendlier.  when did ur sister go? - did she go recently?  cuz i never had the problems she had.  good luck.  i'm sure wherever u choose u'll enjoy :)

Punta Cana is lovely. so is Cancun. they are only just different. stay at a 5 star hotel in dominican if you go

Since you have been to Punta Cana Resorts several times, I would definitely check out the Riviera Maya area of Mexico. Or even check out Cozumel.

The Riviera Maya area is also closer to some very interesting excursions. Good snorkeling in Puerto Moreles. If you have never been to Xcaret a ecological park, it's a must do. Here is a link.
