Which is a better blue ray player, a traditional blue ray player, or a playstation 3.?

i want to know if a playstation 3 is a better blueray player than other blueray players, or if they are the same. Please recommend the one that you think is the best. thanks alot.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with SgtPeppers answer.

When Home Theater/The Perfect Vision does a review of BluRay players - the video image is always compared to the output of a PS3 - and except for one $1,200 player last year - the PS3 usually produces better video and audio.

The difference is CPU horsepower.  The PS3 has "Cell Processors" which are used to render the video from games and the video disks.  This gives it a massive advantage over other stand alone players.

When progressive-scan DVD players first came out - they quickly discovered that the video quality varied a bit.  The chip set inside made a difference, but having a 15 Mhz, vs 20 Mhz vs 24 Mhz processor made the players produce better images.  The PS3 is a superior BluRay player for the same reason: CPU horsepower.

Note: I am not a huge sony fan, but I do respect the technology. The PS3 is the superior player and Sony is committed to keeping it updated with the newer profiles & features.

A 'traditional' blu ray player is far better than playstation 3 in terms of playing movies. The picture and even the sound quality is better.

PS3 is affordable and you can play games on it. Apart from Porno industry, PS3 was also one of the main causes why Blu-ray won over HD.

To put it simply (forget all the marketing details), If you pay 10$ for some vegetables, will they be better in quality or if you pay 8$ for 'vegetables', fruits, eggs and some meat combined ?  ;-)

Dedicated Blu-ray players have better quality but remember that you require all the other components also of a similar quality to be able to enjoy the difference.

If you want to play games or have alow budget, get the PS3 and if you are a movie/music fan and want the best, get a dedicated blu-ray player.

The PS3 is much better, for a simple reason. Sony will often release FW, that in addition to doing things for gaming, movies etc, will also upgrade your Blu-Ray player automatically. No other BR players do that. The PS3, also is cheaper and now offers HD Movie Downloads right to the hard drive.
