Which is a better buy as a household cleaner?

A heavily advertised(expensive) cleaner brags that it contains "bleach and baking soda". For about 1/4 the price I can put baking soda in a bottle of bleach and it should do the same job. Isn't this a better buy?

  1. Make your own up quickly and cheaply and you know it is going to be safe.

Never mix bleach with anything else.

A vinegar and salt mix is good, and so is Baking Soda on it's own.  Do a google search for "clean green", there will be lots of further advice for you.

  2. You don't want to randomly mix any chemicals without knowing how much of each to use. They could cause a fire or toxic fumes. Just use each chemical seperately. For example, a baking soda paste (just water and baking soda) is really good for scrubbing really dirty surfaces. Vinegar and water or bleach and water is really good at light cleaning. Just follow the directions on the packages.

  3. If you do this, mix in very small quantity first to see results.  Let us know. It is a much more frugal way to go.

  4. no. your mix could be dangerous.  Just use vinegar.
