Which is a better coast to stay at in Mauritius..east, west, south, north..?

I am planning to go there for my honeymoon...any good hotels in Dec- pls suggest. Also, how is the climate in Dec in Mauritius.

I think that west coast is actually a lot nicer than the east. Has prettier beaches and all.

the north is by far the best place, its got the best beaches and very nice hotels and its not too far from the capital and some good touristy spots. some beaches in the south are also very nice but the problem is its very far from anything else. you will have to travel a lot to find shops, markets etc

Both the East coast and the West provide high quality beaches and you are unlikely to be dissapointed by either side. The East coast can be more windy than the west, and therefore the sea on the east coast can be rougher when the winds are strong. The more affordable hotels can also be found on the East coast.

Personally, I would choose the West or North West of Mauritius over the East. The East coast is also not as developed as the west/north west, so there is little to do after sunset outside of your hotel, unless you want to travel to the more touristy areas for night life. If you can find something within your budget, look for accomodation around Flic-En-Flac/Wolmar (West) or Trou aux Biches/Grand Bay (North West).

December is  peak summer time, whilst it will be hot, it can also rain more periodically and humidity is higher. There is also a higher risk of cyclones during this period.

Can't comment on the hotels as I always do self-catering -on the west coast- in Mauritus.

The North & West offer very high quality beaches (but beaches are good all round the Mauritius coast line), and offer a very wide range of touristique type activities.

Most hotels in Mauritius also offer good honey moon packages and can cater for nearly all you could ask for.

I suggest taking a day trip to Ile Aux Cerfs (pronounced like Lil O Surf) which is an islet of Mauritius.

Th north is better.... The best hotels and resorts are found there... In December its normally hot...
