Which is a better cruiser, Yamaha V Star Classic 650 or Honda Shadow Spirit 750?

I am trying to decide which on of the two to buy. Don't want to do Harley since I've heard they are not as reliable

I really like the Yamaha V-Star, the shadows a cool bike too though. Not sure if it's a special model shadow or an entirely different bike but I really like the VT or the larger VTX, they are really sharp. I just bought an Intruder 800 with a shaft drive and really like it. I'm a big fan of the V-Star tho

Both great bikes, BUT...they both come stock from the factory with spoke rims, and that means you have to run tube tires.  Should you have a flat somewhere out in the boonies at zero-dark-thirty in the morning, you're screwed.  With a tubeless tire you can just plug it, inflate it, and you're off and running in a very few minutes using a simple procedure and inexpensive repair materials.  Any bike you buy I recommend you install a 12v outlet (simple to do) so you can run a tiny little air pump you stow in a saddlebag.  The outlet can also be used to recharge a cell phone, run a GPS unit, etc.

If you can find either of those bikes equipped to run tubeless tires, great.  Otherwise you may want to consider moving up in engine size to get a bike with "solid" wheels.

With regard to Harleys; to their credit, H-D build better, vastly more dependable bikes now than they ever have.  They're still not up to metric quality and dependability yet, but H-D is working on it.  Fortunately for you, there are any number of great metric cruisers out there for way less money than a Harley.

Never had a problem w/ a Harley. my gf rides a honda... she has problems all the time

Go with the Honda. It makes better power and will cost you less in maintenance.

The only Harley near this class is the 883 and its a white elephant.
