  1. get a vulcan minigun. i guarantee it'll do the trick

  2. Try an 88mm flak gun.  I used mine to hunt wombats.

The best round for hunting bear is the .45-70 US Gov't.  What a bunch of pilgrims!!

  3. a 30\06 will do you just fine

  4. Since either round will kill a bear, you should be looking to the future.  What else do you want to hunt and at what distances?  The .270 is known for being a flatter shooter over longer distances.  The .30-06 will shoot the 180, 200 and even 220 gr bullets that you simply can not shoot effectively out of a .270.  If you go with the .270, stick to premium bonded and partitioned rounds for bear.

  5. Field and Stream had an article about this. A well placed shot from a .270 will do just as much as a well placed shot from a 30-06. This fall I will be black bear hunting in WI with my trusty .270.

  6. .30-06 with a 220 gr bullet is what I use for bear here in Maine.

  7. Have you ever heard the old quote that says " Use Enough Gun " ? I don't know what kind of bear you are talking about, but you can't go wrong with the .30-06. For Brown Bear, Grizzly Bear, Polar Bear I would use my .416 Rigby or at least my .300 Weatherby.

  8. Neither, use one of this with slugs:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4ebtj1jR...

My friends that I fish with from Alaska say they carry a Remmington 870 with slugs for bears.

Elmer Keith the famous gun writer was once asked the question "If you were charged by a grizzly and had only one shot and one shot only, what gun would you want?"   His reply was a Sharps 45-120 Buffalo gun!  I agree, my Sharps 45-120 will knock down anything with a 500gr PP bullet.  Then again, Elmer thought that a 30.06 with a 170 grain bullet was a good squirrel gun.

  9. . no questions asked the .30-06 is better

  10. either gun will easily kill a bear with proper shot placement I personally prefer a .270 over a .30-06 but that just my prefrence

  11. easy question 30-06 powerful SOB right there. I took down a elk from about 500 yards with it. 1 Shot dead! right on the spot. 270's are more of a bigger deer and stuff. 30-06 is the gun u need

  12. The tried, true, tested, an proven 30-06 since 1906.* You have a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from with the 30-06.* I use the 180 or 220 grain myself.* The 30-06 has Harvested more Big Game than any other caliber except for the 30-30 Winchester.*

  13. Yes 30-06 is the right gun. It will kill it with one on 2 shots and it will work much better thn a 270.

  14. The 270.win will do it and this gun can kill anything in northamerica with a properly placed shot but the 30-06 is superior in power and will do a better job

  15. The .30-06 Springfield.  For the bigger bears it will be minimual.

    H

  16. I would lean toward the 30-06 with 180 grain bullets

  17. Blacks or Grizzleys?

Either will kill either. Most folks given the choice would go .30-06. Eastern black bears have been killed with just about any calibre available for years... even puny ones like .25-35, 30-30 and .303British.

Bullet selection is the bigger factor. Bears have thick skin and heavy bone... you need a bullet that gives good penatration... common jacket bbullets tend to part ..... cast bullets hold up better on thick skinned

    game.

  18. 30-06. But unless your a good aim it might take two shots. I freind of mine got one in the shoulder so he didn't kill it and had to fire another round. That one got it.

  19. Having a bear on the loose is no reason to kill it.  If it is a nuisance bear then the authorities can trap it.  Now, if you want to kill a bear because you love the taste of those juicy steaks that's another story.  Either gun will kill a bear with a well placed shot.  The 3006 is more versatile with more choices of bullet weights and more knock down power so that would be my choice between the two.

  20. A .270 is a cal born out of the ought 6. It has a nitch. It is a perfect gun for the long range(300 plus yards) on deer sized game, and is best loaded with a 130 grain bullet.

It will kill easter black bear, but does not have the power to be forgiving if you shot is less than adequate.

I know people who kill Bear in Maine with the .270, but it is not the best for the application you speak. The ought-6 will also be more affordable to practice with due to bulk ammo still available.

    Good Luck.
