We are planning for an Euro Trip and will land in Frankfurt. Planning to rent a car to go to Amsterdam. Stay will be for 2 days and please suggest a decent but not very expensive hotel (like 3 star or so) in Amsterdam. Also looking for Car Parking in the hotel.

  1. NH Tropen is one for you. It is at a quiet location just outside the centre. But with many tram links no problem to get easy into town. Rates are reasonable, and they have a carpark for guests.

  2. The NH on Spuisstraat has a car park underneath, and it's right in the city. It's 3 star, but You'll think it's 4 star, the place is lovely, I've stayed there all 3 times that I went to amsterdam.

  3. I am not an expert at hotel recommendations (living just outside of Amsterdam it's not necessary of course).  However I would suggest considering waiting with hiring a car until you leave Amsterdam for the remaining leg of the journey

The international train from Frankfurt to Amsterdam is easy, cheap, & comfortable (even with kids) to get to Amsterdam.  Otherwise you have the costs of the rental car sitting in a hotel for 2 days which can be anything from €20-50 per day in the centre of Amsterdam.

You would leave it at the hotel during the day as well (if just visiting Amsterdam and not the rest of the Netherlands) because driving and parking in Amsterdam are not practical.  It's tough enough for a local who knows how to navigate trams, people, bikes, small roads and then knows where to park - but for a tourist it is really rough going indeed (especially if you don't have satnav)

So I would go by train from Frankfurt to Amsterdam, stay in your hotel there for a couple of days and then hire a car to go onwards (if this is what you wish).  This also gives you far more options of a nice hotel to pick from

    Best of luck either way

  4. You are hiring a car and taking it to Amsterdam?

Don't be ridiculous. Parking is HORRENDOUS in this city. Have a bit of sense and take the train from Frankfurt, it's much pleasanter. You can always hire a car later on.

There isn't the stigma attached to public transport in Europe as there is in the US.

  5. First of all, I agree with those who have said that you should consider taking the train from Frankfurt and using public transport in Amsterdam, as both parking is a kill (and would probably cost you an arm and leg even if the hotel provides it); and riding a train is very comfortable, especially with children (toilets - on the train; you are free to talk about the sites you see on the way, to play with them - not with driving and finding the way on the map).

However, if you do take a car, here are a few suggestions of hotels that provide parking:

    Hotel Zandbergen

    (three stars, small, family friendly)

    Chic & Basic Amsterdam

As the name suggests, a basic two star no frills hotel, but with amenities and good reviews

    Hotel Heemskerk

    Small, boutique, family friendly

    Hotel De Oude Taveerne

Another family oriented three star hotel

    Tulip Inn Amsterdam Art
