I'm planning on getting 2 12" Kappa Perfects and i was wondering if i should either get 2 1500 watt mono amps or a 2000 watt dual amp. I have a 2002 chevy 1500. I'm also wanting to know if i'll have to get another alternator or not.

  1. one amp can work. but if u want to compeat buy two. u do not have to change out ur alternator

  2. depends on ur intentions, either competition or pleasure, for comp go with the 2 amps, for pleasure 1 will be plenty of power,u dont need to upgrade ur altenator, just get a capacitor, and a sealed battery and u will be just fine.

  3. If you're looking at more then 800 watts rms or so, you WILL want to upgrade your alternator.  Actually, since you've got a truck, maybe a bit higher, but with the power you're talking about, you'll definitely want a high output alternator.  I'd stick with one powerful amp until you learn more about what you're doing.  Setting up two amps to two different subs correctly is tricky.  You need to set your gains exactly with a DMM and clamp.  You want to make sure they are exactly the same.  So I would suggest one amp (not dual) and a high output alternator.
