  10. Dr. Stanley Greenspan, child psychiastrist at GWU, and Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, pediatrician emeritus at Harvard, wrote a book called "The Irreducible Needs of Children."  Until about age 5, children need and best benefit from one on one time with mother.  Mother is their best teacher, what they have to learn they learn best from her.  Schools, curricula, and plans are not useful to 2 year olds, are, in fact, damaging to them.

What 2 year olds need is long walks with mom, learning the names for everything, learning how to say and understand complex sentences, learning to care for themselves, their homes, and their environments, learning how to interact with other people in real (no artificial, age-segregated institutional groups) situations.  They need to sit in mommy's lap and hear her read many stories a day, they need to lay on the floor and built with blocks alone and with mommy.

Beyond that,  NICHD research consistently shows that, for children under 3 years,  more than 10 hours a week of separation from mommy is damaging socially, intellectually, physically, and cognitively.
