I know there are different models of each, but stacking the standard, analogous models against each other to the extent possible, which is the better processor?

  1. Core 2 Duo is better.  Intel Pentium is the outdated and obsolete processor, and uses hyperthreading to "create" two cores.  Core 2 duo actually uses 2 cores, and has better hyperthreading technology.

  2. Core 2 duo... It is a 64bit processor the Pentium is 32  and the list goes on and on

  3. Pentium D isnt Hyperthreaded for it's second core. It has 2 Physical Cores.

Where do you people get your info? The Pentium-D CPU is most certainly EMT64?

    Anyway,

Core 2 Duo is the newer dual core technology. And by far hands down, better than any Dual-Core  Pentium, or Pentium-D CPU to be precise.

Hyperthreading would have been a P4-HT

  4. Core 2 Duo is better hands down, and of far newer technology. Look for a a Core 2 Quad if you really want to step up your power, as it allows for the best multitasking. Also keep an eye out for a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad that says 45nm beside it, these are the newest, most efficient processors.

Also AMD Phenom X3 and X4 and Athlons are a lot slower then Intel's Core 2 Duos and Quads, but also way cheaper. Hope that helps!
