I am going to need progressives but I don't know exactly where to start. I am doing my research and see that there are many different lens types. I am a college student and do a lot of reading and computer work, but also like a good distance vision. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also I tried a bifocal and I have to dip my chin to see distance. What should I tell the optician about adjusting that for the next pair?

  1. Choose a good brand of progressive. I would suggest you start with the Essilor brand of lenses. This company offers a variety of lenses, including newer wave front lens technology, but may be pricey for you. More reasonable lenses would be the Varilux comfort, which is one of the best, Essilor ovation, good for slim fits and the Varilux ellipse for really small frames. Problem with the real small frame fits is the mid range goes quick and doesn't give you much area for the computer.  You can also get specific lenses for computer and near, which can be variable focus as compared to the standard lined bifocal. There are also some lenses that incorporate room distance, so you can see within the room you are in, but don't afford you good distance for driving. Not an all purpose lens like a progressive. Discuss your specific needs with your optician. If he/she is knowledgeable, they can work with you to get the best lens for your situation.
