  1. Blue Ray is EXPENSIVE!

    And unless you have a extremely high quality TV I don't think it will even matter.

  2. this question would have been harder to answer last week.  but right now.... many people can agree bluray will win.

    to be honest..... look at the list of released and upcoming movies for HD-DVD and Bluray and see what movies you will enjoy more.  Looking into 2008....HD-DVD doesnt have a promising lineup.  Universal and Paramount Pictures DID NOT ANNOUNCE AND UPCOMING RELEASES IN THE 2008 CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW.  Warner Bros has just announced bluray exclusivity and rumors are coming that Paramount is ready to release on Bluray again.

    Bluray support has Sony, Fox, DIsney, Lionsgate, And now Warner.

    HD-DVD support is Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks.

    The price of HD-DVD is definitely more affordable...but bluray looks like it has a more stable future

  3. As someone else asked .. are you asking which is better or which will prevail? If the former, better in what way?

    First, Blu-ray appears likely to prevail (although whether it will ever replace DVD is questionable), and technically it is a slightly superior format. BUT, from a user perspective there is no appreciable difference in video or audio quality, and arguably HD DVD is the more consumer friendly format (for example less encryption, no region coding, less delicate), and from a hardware perspective the most "complete".

  4. The support for HD DVDs is declining. Paramount and Warner Brothers just announced that they are supporting Blu Ray. Blu Ray is going to win.

  5. Blu-ray is going to win. First off Blu-Ray is HD and the fact that the laser technology uses a smaller wave length you can store more data then typical HD. So that should show you that Blu-Ray has more benefits. Plus the fact that Disney and other move companys have chosen to support Blu-Ray.. Dont you think that is proof!

  6. Do you want to know which one is better or which one is going to win the High Definition format war?

    If you go back to the 80's, the Beta was a superior format but it still lost the war because Sony did not license the technology which prevented competition between manufactures.  Whereas with the VHS technology was licensed out which lowered the prices of the players which is how it won the war.

    This time, Sony learned from their mistake and did not repeat it so the battles continue.  Personally, I am still sitting back waiting for one of two things to happen before I buy a player;

    1) One format is the clear winner

    2) There is a reasonably price player that does both formats.

    As for which is better in terms of image and sound quality... I have no idea.  :-)

  7. I thought HD-DVD had a chance until I heard both that Warner signed on with Blu-Ray (giving them 70 pct of the market) and that Paramount has a clause that said they can get out of their deal with HD-DVD if Warner ever signed with Blu-Ray and are now likely to do so...

    The only ones backing HD-DVD at that point would be Dreamworks and p**n...

  8. The Blu-ray technology will most likely prevail over the HD-DVD technology due to the extreme compression in Blu-ray technology and the overall amazing sharpness of image. Another thing that could affect the competition between the two types of media is that a lot of major companies (for instance Paramount) are going to release their movies on one media or the the other and not both...and the chosen media is Blu-ray Disc. Sony manufactures the Blu-ray technology and Toshiba manufactures the HD-DVD technology so I suppose the company marketing plays a factoring role as well. It is my personal opinion that Blue-ray Dsic is better than HD-DVD.
