Which is a better tank..?

The M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank or the t-80 main battle tank..?:)

Depends on what performance measure ... there is a reason we have M1A2's ...

The significant advantage of the T-80 is its ability to shoot a guided missile from its 125mm main gun, the fact that it only requires a 3-man crew, and that the diesel engine has a marked advantage in fuel economy.

The M1 (or M1A2) is faster, has better weapons range (outside of the guided missile), and has a significant technological advantage over the T-80 (Thermal imaging, GPS linked situational map, commander's and gunner's ability to acquire targets concurrently, etc.).

In a shoot out, most argue the M1A2 would win...

The m1 abrams is because it has an advance chobham armor system which is these ceramic tiles embedded into the armor skin that discharge the shell being shot at it. Also the Abrams uses a jet turbine as an engine and because of that it has a very long range to travel at 65mph and a German 120 mm smooth bore gun which can get a enemy tank from a mile away . also it has a range finder laser and night vision . and good suspension. and the t-80 is a soviet version of the Abrams it also has composite armor versions just like chobham but less advance more primitive it also uses a jet turbine and uses the traditional soviet tank suspension. And it uses the soviet 120 mm gun but soviet tank designs are simple to make but there not that advanced sometimes soviet tank designs engines would burst into flames for no reason. or the suspension would fall apart. So m1 Abrams better

My dad is an Armor officer (Colonel) and he says the M1 Abrams Main battle tank is better because it has a more advanced fire control system and much more effective armor. It also has a faster sprint speed. And although the t80 probably gets better gas mileage, that's little little consolation if you have a sabot round sticking through your turret.

Which tank is better?  Why shucks...if you are a 5'6" Russian tanker you will say a T80, if you are a 6'3" American tanker it's of course the M1 series, if you're a Brit its the Challenger and if you're a frenchman...oh wait do the french have a tank?  It would seem to me that even a mediocre tank would be a good one with a well trained crew and a great tank is worthless if the crew isn't well trained so its a subjective thing.  I was a tanker for a lot of years on two different tanks and of course they were the best there was at the time.  I can back this up by stating unequivocally that no one ever went up against us so I guess we had the best.  Good luck to you pardner.

Probably theM1A1 but the t80 is nothing to sneeze at.  One problem is the Russian version of the T80 and what they sell to foreign countries are not the same tank really.  The other problem is the Russians would not be fighting one on one with US armor but more like eight to one.
