Which is a good University to study English Literature?

Question

I'm in my 14th year of education, this is in India, by the way. And plan to major in English Literature. The syllabus is very rigid, and not too interesting; so I want to pursue an English Literature major (either in the States or UK). Which universities are good options? And what are the requirements? I still have one whole year to prepare for the exams...but I'm still a little worried.

Lawrence University in Appleton Wisconsin has an excellent English Lit and analysis program. The professors are accessible, interesting, and passionate about this subject matter (always in the top rated from Princeton Review). It has also been highly ranked (top 15 in the nation) for best classroom experience in Princeton Review.

It is distinguished by the level of engagement in the subject matter of its students.  While looking for a school with the questioner's criteria recently for my daughter, I sat in on a class at LU, and I was very impressed by the level of engagement of its students - they did a  knock-out oral presentation on Jane Austen. I was informed later that was a typical kind of class, by the way.

It is a smaller school in the 1400-1500 range and so there is a better opportunity to learn and grow than at a bigger place. It is also one of the "Colleges that Change Lives" (by education author Loren Pope).

They also look for, are interested in international students. There is a relatively high proportion of int'l studnents at around 7pct, I believe.
