Which is a good first car? (Someone who knows about cars please answer!)

I'm turning sixteen in a little over six months, and I'm starting to look around for cars so I can get an idea on the price and things like that. I want one that's really good on gas. I was thinking of either a Saturn Aura Hybrid or a Toyota Prius Hybrid. I know that these are around 20,000 but won't it pay off in time with gas efficiency and taxes once I'm 18? If there are other cars that are better, please let me know in your answer.

  1. If you pay for the car, it might pay for itself. But you do not need a brand new car at 16.. I'm 16 myself and know that. Your first car will honestly probably get wrecked or dented up within 2 years or so.. you wouldn't want to mess up a brand new car right? plus, your mom and dad would have to pay another car payment, higher insurance, etc. It's just better to get a used car so you can get used to driving.  Look at saturn scs, dodge neons, and chevy cavaliers. They are all great on gas mileage and look nice.

  2. Toyota Yaris or Scion tC. Positive attributes include: Sporty, affordable, fuel efficient and driver-friendly.

  3. Toyota Prius is about the best hybrid car there is currently.  If  you buy one, be sure you have a good warrenty that will cover the battery should it need to be replaced.

  4. Good gas milage? yep. Get in an accident with a pick up or bigger vehicle? Yer dead. Go for safety.

  5. If you are planning on keeping the car 10+ years, Hybrids are not the way to go. The battery disposal is more harmful to the environment than using gas as the replacement is likely to cost about 10K.

Go for either a Toyota Yaris or a Honda Fit.

  6. It wont pay off if you wreck it within those two years.

Being your first car, most likely its going to be dented, totaled, in a wreck etc etc etc wihtin the next two years decreasing resale value and reliability on the vehicle.

Try looking into something still fuel efficent, but reasonably used.

Good Cars to look at would be:

    Ford Focus

    Toyota Corolla

    Nissan Sentra

    Toyota Echo

    Honda Fit

    Honda Civic

    Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe

    Good luck!

  7. nissan skyline

  8. well danielle i don't know any fuel efficient cars other than my 07 charger r/t, but my car has mds so it can turn off 4 cylinders of the eight when under 60 mph, but u can get the v6 it's a great car u can get it for 20000 but i recommend the v6 for u cuz the v8 is real strong. i am just 18 but where i live (kuwait) i can fill up my car for only 15 bucks.

  9. mazda3 or nissan sentra.

nissans new lineup has CVT trasnmission, which is a gearlessa utomatic transmission I think, which equals better fuel efficiency. it can easily get 900km HIGHWAY!!!!!

  10. kia spectra or toyota corolla both are very good cars
