  1. Acting is like professional sports or writing.  Think of all of the colleges with football teams...thousands of players!  A very, very small precent are able to go pro. Writing is the same way.  I've heard an agent say that for every novel that gets published there are at least a thousand that don't make it. That's not to say that the others aren't good...many of them are, but it's nearly impossible to get noticed among the pack.  I'm a recruiter and I see thousands of resumes. Companies scan resumes with software so your's may never stand out.  Now think of acting.  How many dramatic clubs are there in the US?  How many people are enrolled in drama classes in college? Again, thousands!  You're being picked for a roll, after you make it to a casting call are increadibly small.  Producers and directors may see hundreds of would-be actors in a day.  It is a whim who they pick.  There would see many talented people, but maybe they are after a certain look, of voice, or whatever.  Chances are small that they all agree that it is you who is right for the roll.

Now let's look at vets.  I had a friend who was a vet and be loved animals and thus he loved going to work everyday.  He had a big house and his own business, antique cars, and lots of horses.

So let me ask you this.  Would you rather be standing line on a cold day in NYC waiting for a casting call, hungry and cold?  Or would you rather be doing something that is satisfying and rewarding, both in terms of finances and helping God' creatures big and small?

  2. I think a vet is probably more practical cause I think it's pretty hard to make a lot of money in acting(besides all the movie stars end up trainwrecking but not the vets.

  3. I'm glad you find acting very exciting! It's fun isn't it? There are a lot of great things you can do when you know how to act well, however, I'd advise doing acting more on the side and pursuing your love for animals. As a Vet you could have a very reliable income and deal with creatures you love to work with every day.

As fun as acting is, when you try going to the big studios it can take a very long time first to even get in a film and until you become noted as a good actress you could be forced to do movies or TV shows that could go against what you want or you could deal with a lot of pressure and frustrating people.

My advice: enjoy acting while you're still in school, learn it, love it, and use it on the side when you grow older, but choose the more solid career of being a Vet.

  4. Being an actress may seem to be a life of glamor or fun.  In all actually, it's a lot harder to become an actress than just making a movie or two. Being a veterinarian however makes more sense because as long as there are actors, actresses and other people who have pets who are like family vets will always have work.  Not to mention a veterinarian makes quite a bit of money. Even still, don't make the decision to be anything just because of the money. I know, I did and now I'm 25 and still have no set career because instead of attending college a took a career I earned a certificate in High School for without looking for something better for me.  Good luck!

  5. Average earnings of actors are very low. To become a vet you will need a lot of schooling, but the rewards are much higher.

  6. Vet. You can always act on the side as a hobby.

  7. i think being a vet is a much better and safer choice then being a actor, i mean thats a given
