Which is a nice thing to buy in Rio de Janeiro?

My parents are going tomorrow on a trip to Rio and they asked me what would I like to get.

I told them that I would like:

- Chocolate Lindt

- a turma da monica mag

and I don't know what else!

so what's a typical thing to buy there?

Havaiana sandals, they are cheap there, around 10 bucks, in Europe they go as high as 50 euros.

Unfortunately they cannot bring the beauty of Rio, but they can bring you a Brazilian bikini!

You can get Lindt anywhere. I'd say save that request for when they're in Switzerland. Have you ever had mate (pronounced ma-teh). A kilo of Canarias mate, a bombilla and gourd is always good if you do. Also, they make rocket dog shoes their. They are wicked cheap there. Look into it.

Save the Lindt!  For the high end purchase precious gems from HR Stern are still reasonable by our standards.  For the more economical shopper there are the many beautiful items done by the local crafters.  Their market is set up along the beaches.  Other great buys include bikinis (very small!), sarape's (wraps for over your swimwear), and Haviana flip-flops (in just about any color or style you can imagine).  They can purchase "Monica e Turma" magazines at any news stand in Brazil.
