  1. They both have to offer pretty much the same things as far as scenery, mountains, cloud forests, white water, beaches etc.  Guatemala just has more of it, plus has all the Mayan ruins.

  2. costa rica u will loved it for real

  3. definitely you will love costa rica...

  4. Costa Rica,  looks more like where you could have a paradise vacation!

  5. Sorry for the people before me but CR is the central garbage dump.If you don't step in a bloody Kotex some Tico that smiles at you will mug you.Costa Ricans should travel more and see what is paradise........

  6. Are you kidding?!!!

    Of course Costa Rica, obviously!....

  8. Costa Rica is the best! we have volcanoes, beaches, cloud forest, rafting, canopy, it's great.

    Hope this helps.

  9. Costa Rica is a nice place to live but I wouldn't want to visit there.  Old quote about Costa Rica.  Costa Rica is becoming a lower middle class united states at very high prices.

Both countries have very prettier areas but Guatemala is far more dramatic and will cost a fraction of a comparable visit to C.R.

10 years ago C.R. was a very safe place and Guatemala was dangerous.  Now, your chances of having problems are close to the same.

But to ask which country is "prettier" really can't be answered.  Guatemala has more variety, Costa Rica has better access to National Parks.

  10. My goodness, what a challenging question!  Costa Rica certainly has more prepared sites for visitation for tourists with the cash (better paved roads, guided tours and new air conditioned buses, expensive luxury hotels, and everything in U.S. $), whereas Guatemala is still far behind in many ways.  However, both countries have rain forest (Guatemala in the Peten region), both have coastlines with black sand beaches (Costa Rica on the Atlantic side, Guate on the Pacific), both have turtle hatching areas (Costa Rica in Tortuguero and along the Caribbean, Guatemala on Pacific side just to the east of Puerto San Jose), both have active and dormant volcanos, and both have heavily producing banana and coffee regions.

Having said all the above, the archaeological remains of Costa Rica are few and far between and its remaining indigenous population is around 1% of the total pop.  Guatemala abounds with archaeological sites from Iximche to Zaculeu, to Mixco Viejo, Kaminaljuyu and the famous Tikal.  The Maya population varies from publication to publication but their colorful clothing adorns some 60% of the peoples.  If you want canned tourism, try Costa Rica, if you want off-road adventure in some rather remote site, try Guatemala.  The mountains of the Cuchumatanes in Guatemala are glorious as is the volcanic lake area surrounding Atitlan.
