  1. Because its a bottleneck cartridge, the 7.62x25 is very powerful, so it tends to over-penetrate. But if you can find hollow-point rounds in this caliber than it would be a very effective self-defence pistol. Don't even consider a .22.

  2. As much as I like the 7.62 X 25, it's ability to over penetrate is a worry. If you can find hollow point ammo for this weapon, that may be an answer.

The .22 is really not an answer for defense.

  3. Buy a Glock. They are the most reliable, high capacity semi-auto pistols on the market. They are known globally to be one of the best. And as for caliber, I would get a 9mm. 22LR just doesn't have the stopping power you want. Hope this helps you.

  4. 9mm is c**p too. Special Forces uses .45 ACP...why? It won't just kill, it will knock them on their butt! Plus, it is dead acurate at 25 yards...even though most violent situations are within 10 feet, it's nice to have the range if needed.

  5. 7.62 since its a millitary grade round it will always be manufactured and cheap. wolf ammo for 500 7.62 is only gonna run you around 70-120$

  6. the ONLY time I would use .22lr for personal defense is if I had no other option.

And even then, i would use the gun as a hammer or bat and not actually shoot the assailant with it.

Don't get me wrong, the .22lr can kill a human, but shot placement would have to be excellent.  Always be safety-conscoius when using even the lowly .22, but it's a horrible choice for self defense.

  7. Neither one, the best caliber pistol for self-defense is the tried, true, tested, and proven 357 Magnum, and you can also shoot 38 caliber ammo in it.* You get two (2*) handguns for the price of one.* It is a no nonsense man stopper.* Use 125 grain jacketed hollow points for ammo.*  Research it and you will see this is the best choice.* I recommend the Smith & Wesson or Ruger Brands.* I use S&W.*

  8. buy a caty and some marbles, thats the best defecne for u.

  9. .22LR would work fine for most situations.  It is lethal, however with it being such a small round, it would definitely take more than one shot.  The good news about that is if you shot someone once they know you mean business and more than like will stop the attack there.  If you want a little more knock down power I would recommend the 40 S&W round 180 grain jacketed hollow point.  It doesn't have as much power as say a 45ACP or the 357mag but remember you are responsible for that round after it leaves whoever you shot, and more than likely the 45 and the 357 are going straight through someone especially close range.  The FBI invented the round for that specific reason and is starting to gain more popularity with police department.

  10. The 7.62x25 will have a larger bullet and more power. Just make each shot count. Shoot between the eyes or in the middle of the chest.

  11. This is like comparing a VW to a Corvette!!  The 22 lacks oomph for stopping power; if you use one be sure and empty it into the intended target and run like heck.  The 762x25 will stop them cold but you run the rist of harming a neighbor as it tends to penetrate everything.  I have a CZ52 and firing S&B 85 grains shells that step out at over 1800 fps it is really amazing.  It is like the energizer bunny; it keeps going and going.  If your neighbor's house is in the way that is his bad luck.  Really, for self defense in your home get a simple pump 12 gauge and use 4 shot; it will stop anybody and not harm the neighbors.  Set up a piece of plywood and see what a nice basketball size hole it blows in it at fifteen feet!!!!  Think what it does to a soft skinned human????

  12. The 7.62X25 is a real penetrater. It's probably not very good for self defense in the house because it'll most likely go through the assailant and keep on going much like a rifle round. Her is a link of it being tested against other handgun rounds against a military helmet. It penetrated better than a .357 Magnum using a maximum charge round.
