Get version 7.5 instead of AVG8 because avg8 slows down your system too.

Neither is better or worse than the other based on whether they're free or not. It's the brands that matter.

Best AVs:

Pay for: Eset NOD32

Free: AVG Free

NOD32 has heuristics. This means in addition to finding already known signatures indicative of a virus, it is constantly looking for the common behavior of viruses. I can't remember if AVG has heuristics or not. But it's the most recommended free AV.

It is free for the personal version and a yearly pay for the Professional version....

AVG free, its great, its reliable, and 8.0 really stepped it up. Try it, but you can also use Avast! Home edition.

AVG or Avast. However, with either one, you actually have to USE it. Meaning, just cause it's ON the comp doesn't mean it's doing anything. You have to click on it and do a scan.
