  1. not brazilian jujitsu. often time in the streets one person won't just up and attack you. usually many people. so when ur trying to group the person his friends will kick ur head in. practice krav maga or silat.

  2. I think the arts that are you used in the U.F.C would be the best for hand to hand combat.  THe ancient Greeks used a form called Pankration. And often the result was death. The other guy would be beaten to death. I studied Mauy Thai, Jiu-jitsu, and Arnis/Eskrima in the Philippines. I lived there for 2 years. I was going to enter a Muay Thai competition, but I was not allowed. I was considered to dangerous.

  3. None really as it depends on what you can adapt to and feel comfortable using but I'd suggest investigating...

    Jiu-jitsu,Aikido,Wing chun,Boxing and Krav maga :)***

  4. mma...its a combo of boxing,wrestling,jiu-jitsu,kickboxing...... ufc.

mainly brazilian jiu-jitsu...you take the guy down and submit or choke him easily

  5. just speak to them how you type...that is an art form that will scare anyone away...

  6. its the cat fight in karate

  7. Any and all.

This is one of the most basic misconceptions about the martial arts, that self-defense is a set of techniques.

Street smarts, psychology and keeping out of trouble should be your first line of defense.

Martial arts are good to know in this respect, but they'll serve you only in a very limited number of situations, most of which you can probably avoid anyway. They're not going to do much against a mugger with a gun or a pickpocket.

I think the real usefulness of martial arts is misunderstood in this context. They teach confidence, awareness and an increased capacity for thinking straight in a physical situation - so as to avoid the panic or freeze effect.

In that respect, whatever art will maintain your interest is probably the best one. Not once have I had to use a technique - that doesn't mean the arts aren't useful. But it's deeper than that. (And if you "have" to use your art every other week, there's something in your lifestyle you need to examine - even prison guards and police officers would rather keep that as a last resort).

  8. become a drunken Shaolin fighter...you kick *** and get to drink  How sweet is that

  9. Opinionated kitten got a major portion of it right, pointing out the true value of studying martial arts, that of avoiding trouble. Sometimes though no matter how aware or catious you are you will be forced to defend yourself. I am not talking about a street fight which is a clash of two ego's and 99% of the time can be avoided, I am talking the 1% of the time where you have absolutly no other choice then to get physical, and self defense is about survival pure and simple.

No ego, no cheering crowds, just going home to your family. Slef defense does not necessarilly mean taking the person out, it can be as simple as doing enough to give you the oppurtunity to get away. Many people will tell you the style they take, or a vast majority will tell you BJJ and Muay Thai, mainly because they are the most predominant ones in MMA. That being said, the ring or octogan is not the streets. Will these styles work for self defense, and work well? Absolutly yes. Are they the only effective ones for self defense? Not by a long shot.

Far more importent then style is:

    1) A good instructor that can show you the right way.

    2) A school that trains realisticly, with progressive resistance and contact sparring.

    3) A style that fits your body type and temperment.

I will tell you, and every other actual person that has a clue, either MMA's person or more traditional person, that the fighter makes the style, not the other way around. It is only the wanna be's, posers, fanboys, and deluded traditionalist's that will say one style is better then another.

  10. jujitsu,

  11. karate.

    comedy doesn't always work.
