Depends on what specific model your askin about. Both brands have had great AND crappy cars. Overall, I prefer Toyota...not sure why, but I do. Honda just doesnt have the look, performance, comfort, efficiency that other cars do.

The reason Toyota has stayed on top is because they constantly update their designs. For example, the previous generation Highlander was a great car that could still outsell most cars in it's class today. But to stay on top of everything, Toyota replaced it with an even better Highlander.

If company's like GM updated their designs more, they would most likely be doing better as a company. They don't seem to understand that most the cars that they sell are made to get form point. a to point. b. They are not able to turn an economy car into a classic.

When it comes to Honda vs. Toyota, the clear winner is Honda. Honda was just rated the best car brand of 2008 for outstanding quality, fair pricing, stellar reliability, and fit and finish.

Obviously Toyota wins for the largest model lineup, bt for what is avialable by Honda, they clearly win. Another contributing fact for Toyota loosing is the Toyota Camry. That car is horrendous on every level. It is slow, has poor dynamics, bland styling, and subpar reliability. It needs major help and it needs it ASAP.

It's really kinda hard to say which I prefer. I've owned both in the past and they are both very dependable and reliable. But, if I have to choice one then, I will go with toyota. I'm getting ready to purchase the Accord simple because of styling, size, and price. But really the're both great cars over all.

Toyota - Hands down.  They are designed to last longer and save the most gas.  They are less expensive to buy and give much more value for your hard earned money.  Honda has the most expensive commercials going, and you have to pay for their desperation to increase market share.

Both Honda and Toyota make very good dependable cars. Toyota projects itself as more of a family brand with emphasis on reliability, economy, comfort and cheap to maintain. Honda has always projected itself as a sporty maufacturer with its emphasis being the driver (poor man's BMW, so to speak). Their cars too are reliable, fuel efficient and extremely good to drive.

In my opinion Hondas have better styling and are loads of fun to drive and so I'll say Honda is better.
