I live on the East Coast and I just bought a skim board and I know I need to get something to let grip the board when I skim. Which one should I get a grip pad or surf wax?

  1. wax for a skim board

  2. tracktion pads are better

  3. A traction pad costs alot more than wax but if you have a nice board then it might be worth it.  In the long run it will save you money on wax but you have to have the board for a long time

if you have a board over $ 200  get a traction pad

  4. most people use a combination of both.  a typical setup for a skimboard is a stomp pad on the back to really hold your foot in place so you can bust out big sprays and an archbar with wax around it for your front foot to give a little extra grip and consistant feel.  ofcourse you dont want to spend more on the traction than you did on the board, so if you just bought one of those plywood or thin small fiberglass ones dont bother with the traction pad.  for a nice zap comp carbon fiber you want a nice pad because it will allow you to get the full use out of your board.

  5. Traction Pad for your back Foot, wax for you front foot.
