  1. Neither is better as long as it does what you want.

Photoshop is PREFERED by the pros because it is the industry standard.  It's native format is compatible with most of the systems that print service bureaus use, so, it can be said that it is "universal" in it's compatibility between systems.

That, and the fact that it is an extremely POWERFUL graphics tool, with features that most casual users never even know about.

Understand, that I know, virtually NOTHING about Paintshop, so I can't speak against it.  But, I do know that among professionals and their associated industries, EVERYONE knows about Photoshop, and, when I mention a feature, tool, filter or function of the application, I am understood.

  2. Paintshop is good for a beginner or someone who wants to edit photos,

but if you are looking for something more advanced with infinitely more options, Photoshop is the way to go!

One thing to take into account, Photoshop is difficult to learn, and involves almost too much readin (at least for a visual learner like me), I would recommend going to ebay and buying a photoshop visual tutorial!

  3. It depends ... if you are a pro, you need Photoshop since it is the standard of the industry.

If you are an advanced amateur, Paintshop will do nearly everything you want ... and save you some money ... or you can buy Photoshop Elements (under $100)

  4. Photoshop is the best imaging software bar none.  You can download a free fully functional trial version at the Adobe website, but after a few weeks it will cease to work unless you get a serial number from somewhere, namely buying it...
