I have the option of going to UBC or uVic for one semester, which one is better? I'm worried because I've heard that Victoria is a very small city and there is nothing to do at night.... I'm not really that interested in the quality of the schools, since I'll only be there for 4 months (Jan-April), although I've heard UBC is a better school. I want to know about the weather, the type of city and the type of people who live there.

  1. Victoria is a smaller city (less than 500K) while Vancouver is over doubled that amount.  The nightlife in Victoria isn't dead, there is pubs, clubs, etc.. that are open all the time for those that wish to go there.  Along with museums, galleries, parks, sporting events, etc... to fill the time. The weather is usually warmer in Victoria than in Vancouver because it is more sheltered.  The people are very diverse, old, young, locals, tourists, students, different religions, different ethnic groups.

Vancouver is bigger, has more to do, young & old, parks, clubs, pubs, and so forth.  it really depends on what you want yourself.

    Both schools are good.

  2. Vancouver is the best the people here are really nice. It is a really great city lots of stuff to do and the weather changes often just check weathernetwork.ca

  3. I am a former chef and worked in both places when I was with CP Hotels back in the 1980's, and as the first person said they vary greatly, but Victoria is a bit more sedate, it still has its charm, if your old it is nice, the younger crowd even the people whoa ttend UVic find it a bit boring.

Vancouver has everything and the night life is much more open, but it is spread out, and to get to a place like West Van or White Rock it is a tumble and quite a trip. Weather is basically the same the storms hit the island first, temps are about the same, more rain in Vancouver as the fronts hit the mountains, people are all alike, god, bad and indifferent but all in all it is one of the places I worked I would go to and live again just like Edmonton and Halifax.

  4. UBC  has a good reputation  as does U Vic  They used to say the streets  were rolled up at 9 in victoria  times have changed  .Go to hellobc   & tourismvictoria   for free guides

  5. If I were you and I had 4 months I would go to UBC because it will take 3 months and 27 days to see everything. You can then go to Victoria for a weekend and see it all in two days.

For kids who live in Vancouver they like to go to U Vic to get away from their families and party. UBC is not quite the party school it use to be because of the high grades you need to even get in, but being in Vancouver there are way more options for everything.
