Which is better, hydro, natural gas or electric for a house??

What is the difference between the three?? We are planning to buy a house and saw a lot of houses that uses electric. Our cousin who just sold their townhouse said that electric bill was killing them especially in winter. It's costing them about $300 - $400 a month!! How true is it that you are better off getting a house that uses hydro?

Electric is the least efficient but cheapest to install. Spend the money now and save later. Go natural.
