Which is better - Female or Male Dwarf Hamster?

I want to get a hamster, but which is better? Male or female?

Females are not nicer than males...

They are more agressive than males.

I had a female and I gave her away because she bit to much.

Females have even been known to kill the male.

And they have high maternal agression like any other rodent.

But It's what ever you feel you can handle.

Personally I feel it depends on the individual Hamster in it self

You may get lucky with a nice one.

It makes little difference so either.  Just go for the one you like.  I have three males but that was only because that was what was available; I have had females in the past.  You must get more than one (of the same s*x from the same litter), dwarf hamsters are social with their own kind (it is the larger syrian hamsters that kill each other).

It doesn't matter so much, as long as you have *one*.

Female dwarf hamsters will simply not live together. They will kill each other.

Males are equally territorial, but if you introduce them early in life (less than 3 mo. old) they will treat each other as litter mates, and be happy.

I can guarantee that if you buy your pets at a big place like PetCo or PetSmart, your pets will NOT be young enough to do this. In any case, I strongly advise you not to buy your pets from a place like that for multiple reasons. For one, dwarfs from there tend to be old, and it's hard to train them out of things like biting, and for two, they don't feed their dwarfs an appropriate diet!

Don't forget, dwarf hamsters have very different temperament than normal hamsters, and they still vary quite a bit between breed and training. I'd recommend buy young, train early, and accept that biting is a way of them communicating with you even if they really do love you!

i have a male and female dwarf hamster and the female bites more then my male

First off all its better to get 2 hamsters.

I'm not sure if a female is the best choice..

With gerbils rats and mices its better to get a male because females are more dominant and will fight and bite. So i guess its the same with hamsters and you better take male hamster(s)

Females are more gentle and they won't bite as much. Also females are cuter to get a female.

It depends on the amount of money you want to spend. (If possible) neuter the male and he will be a better pet (males spray and neutering will stop it) But since hamsters might be too small to neuter get a female.

Well if can put up the smell of the markings get a male but if you can't get a female.
