  1. Anything is fine as long as it is'nt a bodyboard, kneeboard or paddle-ski...

How come above mentioned haven't been worked out of the sea yet? Theres nothing worse than seeing a set of the day being caught by a bodyboarder...

  2. Really depends on the waves you surf and your personal skill level..........i like Shortboard myself but i also like BIG WAVES

  3. Take out the confusion and go with a a funboard.  The boards you listed are for different conditions / ability and you can get one that fits your taste later.  If you get a longboard, it'll be easier to learn on but it's harder to turn and you may wish you bought a shortboard to start with.  If you buy a shortboard, the learning curve is longer/harder and you may wish you started with a longboard.  If you get a funboard - it's in the middle and offers the best of both worlds.  By funboard I would say anything in the 7'6" - 8'6" range.  It's easy to catch waves, easier to duck dive, and it's easy turn.  It's the main reason a lot of old guys who still want to 'shortboard' ride these.

    I

  4. mary, i've been surfin most of my life .this is my specialty.first off,can you surf?if not,a nice soft long board is the best.but a long board none the less. i surf short boards and have quite a few.it's all about your ability. a fish is loose but not that loose and takes some getting used to the wide tail.short boards are quick to respond and take alot more paddling through the inside and duck diving is easier.the big question is can you surf

  5. how good are you

  6. I'm a goofyfooter and use a shortboard.

  7. There really isn't a "best" board.  It all depends on preference, ability and types of waves you surf.  Personally, I have 3 fishes that I ride ranging in size from 5'8" to 6'5" (all from 9 Fish Surfboards).  I mostly ride the 5'8".  It's also a misconception that fishes are only for small waves.  I've ridden a fish at Pipeline and had a great time.  The reason I like fishes is because you have a board that turns like a shortboard while being able to paddle and catch waves like a longboard.  The extra width, thickness and deep swallowtail make it easy enough to get into a wave where I'm able to sit out with the longboarders.  My 5'8" is also a FCS quad fin set up.  This allows me to switch fins around for different conditions.

The other nice thing about having a fish is that it's smaller than a longboard, so it's easy to carry around and it fits in the backseat of my car.

So for me, I would have to say a fish is the way to go.

Take a look at the 9 Fish Surfboards company page (http://www.9fishsurf.com/company.html).  They have a real nice description of the benefits of a fish (Can you tell that I'm a fan of theirs?).

  8. There is no best  board, the question is which is the best board for you ? Well a Gun would be strictly for BIG waves so if you are a charger this is for you.

If you are just begining it would be wise to get a Longboard or a minimal which would be between a longboard and a short board.

A fish would also be quiet good because it is fat  which give you more stability and doesn't take up alot of room(transport wise).
