Question:

Which is better...More generalist content or more niche related content?

Ive seen websites out there with 400+ articles of information and very generalist content at that. My question is can you have a niche related content site, have less articles, but still drive just as much if not more traffic than the sites that have 400+ articles of generalist content on their websites???

The reason I ask is because the niche I am choosing to do a website for...after all the content is said and done, will be about 275 articles of information. I will still try to add more content, but after the main meat it may be a slower process.

I was also thinking of adding a forum section to my website as one way for visitors to have a reason to come back to the site. That along with a newsletter.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

By the way I am not telling my niche because is under wraps at the moment.... :-)

  1. If you have 275 articles of targeted content that is enough.  It is better to start out with less content and consistently add more to your website.  Search engines like to see websites that grow over time.

What will be more important is your Content + Link ratio.  If you have 275 pages and ZERO websites linking to you...not the best.  What you want is to organically grow your website.

I would suggest adding 50 pages & then work on finding quality link partners.  Once you have good rankings for those pages move on to the next 50.
