Looking at a couple HTIB one comes with Onkyo HT-R940 which is THX certified, the other comes with TX-SR605 which is listed as able to put out uncompressed audio through HDMI. Which would be a better system for use with Blu Ray and 1080P TV?

  1. 605 has HDMI 1.3a - which will let you take advantage of the new HD audio formats.  And they are incredible!

  2. I'd go with the one with the most HDMI connections, but if your TV has plenty then just run the digital optical out from the TV to the THX receiver if it doesn't have HDMI connections.

HDMI and Optical audio are both digital signals carriers, neither are better in the sound department...hdmi just happens to carry both audio and video. You will never really hear the difference.

The Blu-ray disc has uncompressed audio on the disc itself, you just need a digital connection to the receiver. Be sure that whatever runs to your receiver is set to Bitstream and not Linear PCM.
