  1. I've been to both cities, and I can they're very different from each other. Quebec City is obviously very Francophone, so it would be helpful if you spoke French...

City wise, I love both. Quebec City is smaller than Vancouver but offers European charm with its old buildings and rich history. While Vancouver, is definitely more modern, larger, and more cosmopolitan and multi-cultured than Quebec City. Climate wise, Vancouver is definitely warmer. I've read numerous times that Vancouver has been rated as one of the best places to live in North America, so my choice for you guys would be Vancouver. If you're considering living in Quebec (province), i would recommend checking out Montreal, its more cosmopolitan than Quebec City, has some old charm, has a big city feel, and has a large Anglophone minority. Education in Montreal is top-notch too, McGill University, Concordia, etc.

I found these two links for you with information regarding living in Quebec City, or Vancouver.

  2. Vancouver, Quebec City is nice and small, but  I couldn't stay there for long.

Vancouver housing isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for!

  3. I agree with much of Gene's post, but here's to add to his:

Vancouver has great higher education, with the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, both well rated schools.

As for as climate goes, I much much much prefer Vancouver's. Quebec City gets cold, as in, -40 for weeks and snow as high as houses. Vancouver gets snow for at most, maybe 10 days a year. Quebec City is also a lot hotter in the summer. Also, it is very francophone, much more then Montreal. Quebec definitely has European charm, however it lacks some things you expect from a big city. Vancouver has those big city things, plus beautiful beaches, parks (Stanley Park is amazing), mountains, world class skiing close by (Whistler), 2010 Olympics, etc.

Before bringing in cost of living, I would definitely recommend Vancouver over Quebec City, however one major disadvantage of Vancouver is it's definitely expensive. In the older apartment buildings area of town, rent for a one-bedroom will run you around $1000. I live in a nice area, it one-bedroom rent is between $1600-$2000. To purchase, you're looking at $300,000 to $500,000 for a one bedroom. That sort of money in Quebec City on the other hand could buy you a house.

  4. Vancouver is one of the few cities in Canada that doesn't get double digit negative celcius temperatures during winter.

  5. Hi,

    Bonjour,

    Nihau,

I am personally much more fond of Quebec City, but then again I enjoy winter weather and have spoken French since I was born. :) My being a Canadiens fan doesn't hurt eh
