I want to take up either of these sports, but which one is better, easier to learn and why? Any useful websites would help too.

  1. It seems most of the people answering have not played competitive badminton.  Playing in a gym with people who know how to play is totally different from playing in your backyard or in a park.  I've played both.  Badminton is easier to keep the projectile in play but it's harder to master.  Badminton is the fastest racket sport.  It's more expensive and unlike tennis, it's sometimes hard to find places to play in the US.

I purchase my shuttles through the internet.  The cheapest shuttles costs about $1.00 per shuttle and they're only good for one game, sometimes for only one point.

To see what competitive badminton looks like, check out any badminton tournament on Youtube.com.

  2. tennis of course

    !!!

  3. I play both, and if you want a easier sport, badminton is easy, because in tennis you have to learn a lot to improve, and you need a lot of skill and be fit. For badminton, there are a couple of skills, and it's not so frustrating to learn because it is simpler and tennis needs good grips and a good coach to suceed. You use a lightweight racket for badminton and you use your wrist to play, and for tennis you use quite a heavier one and you use your arm and waist to generate energy to play.

  4. i like tennis better. its more fun and fast paced.

  5. of course badminton..u guys are wrong about tennis being fast. badminton is faster. the smashes can go up to 300km/h whereas tennis is only about 200km/h++... badminton is easier. well im saying this because lee chong wei the 2nd world ranking is from my country..hehe..malaysia!!

  6. i think badminton is easier and funner

tennis is quite hard and the ball can move quite fast and hard whereas badminton the ball (shutlecock) is lighter and moves slower making it easier to hit it .

  7. Definitely Tennis

Its much easier than badminton as u can hit the ball but with badminton the shuttlecock is really light and it is very difficult to get it anywhere

  8. Well badminton is easier the ball don't weigh anything! But tennis is harder and way more exciting.besides you don't see any badminton players on TV , trying to win a championship worth around $700,000. I would definitely say tennis.

  9. Badminton is easier to learn. But I still prefer tennis. There's more adrenalin rush in tennis.

  10. i think badminton is more fun =)

  11. Tennis all the way as much as i love badminton.

  12. I love both sports.  In terms of easiness, Badminton is easy to play compare to Tennis.  Tennis require more skills.  In terms of popularity, Tennis is more a popular sport in the world compare to Badminton.  I hope I give you some ideas in deciding which sports to choose.

  13. Tennis is better because you'll find a wider variety of people and places that you can actually play.

Both are very good sports though and are easy to learn.

  14. Depends on if you like playing with balls or shuttlecock.

  15. its basically ur own opinion, but badminton is a easier sport, tennis is wonderful (I love tennis) but hard to mastermind. You use different muscles and different body parts for power in these two sports. wrist for badminton and your hips asd spine for tennis. For badminton you can learn by yourself but tennisyou really need a coach.

  16. Tennis because I get way more power than I do in Badminton and I always over hit the birdie in Badminton because i keep thinking its a tennis ball for some reason.

  17. Badminton is easier, it involves less running around and I personally find it a lot more fun.  The court is a lot smaller and tennis has about the same amount of rules.

  18. tennis games last longer, badminton games have more intesity.

A badminton shuttle can move very fast and at a high level you alwasy need to be on your feet to get the next shot because the shots can be very tight, especially in singles.

You have to be fit, and technique is important too

Of course when you start out badminton an easier game

when I started out I could beat everyone easy wth one shot, but that doesnt work anymore because theyve learnt to get it back.

tennis also needs footwork technique etc as you get better

  19. I play both. More strength is needed for tennis.. and to be honest i think badminton is an easier game however a lot faster.

    BUT.. I prefer tennis.

  20. I think tennis is harder, more challenging, and more fun overall. There's many different techniques and playing styles. I'm pretty good at badminton as well, and it's pretty fun. I work up a bigger sweat from badminton more than I do in tennis. Also, it's pretty easy to improve. But, it's not as fun as tennis to me.

  21. Tennis

  22. I would say take up tennis. Tennis is more common so your probably going to find more people who can help you. AND YOU CAN'T GET SHUTTLECOCKS ANYWHERE! Seriously, my brother and I love badminton but we were out of birdies so we looked at Sports Authority, Toys R us, Olympia Sports, everywhere!

  23. you came to a tennis forum and asked which is better. Obviously everyone will say tennis, maybe you should try Polls and Surveys. As a matter of fact I prefer Badminton.

  24. i often debate that question since i play both... both are hard trust me... if you play badminton professionally it is at a very very fast pace...

i think both are its really hard to tell

tennis  is more popular but badminton is gaining popularity too

  25. it is easier to learn badminton. you can also play badminton anywhere. you don't need a court and a net to play badminton. badminton is a lot cheaper than tennis also. the racket is lighter and cheaper.

in badminton, you need to have a good reflex.

i suggest you to play badminton. playing tennis without good coach could likely harm your body (because of wrong technique)

  26. Badminton seems more like a game of perception I guess, if that's even the right word. It's much harder to see a tiny white object than a relatively large green ball.
