  1. I think Washington DC, orrrrrrrrrr New York. I think they both are silly places.

  2. I live in NYC and I have relatives in the DC area. Overall, both NY and DC have their pros and cons. NY has better nightlife and entertainment (Broadway, Lincoln Center). NY has better educational institutions (Georgetown is an elite school but it's not Columbia). There's more diversity in NY than in DC. The Chinatown in NY is much larger than the Chinatown in DC. New York is a 24/7 metropolis. It has iconic attractions like Times Square, Macy's, the Brooklyn Bridge, Yankee Stadium, and the Empire State Building.

Although both NY and DC have great museums, the Smithsonian Museums are free. DC seems to be less congested than NY. The subway system in DC is much better than the subway in NY. DC isn't exactly a cheap city, but the cost of living is much higher in NY. DC is arguably the most important city in the free world. In addition, the suburban areas of DC are more diverse than the suburban areas of NY.

Both New York and DC have crime and poverty in the inner city areas. It's hard to say which is better since it's a subjective question. If you like a smaller, laid back city then DC is the better option. If you like a larger city with hustle and bustle then NY is the choice.

  3. It depends on what you like better. In DC you can see all sorts of history and awesome museums. In New York you can see that too plus shopping, the bad part of New York is how crowded it is and how rude people can be.

  4. They both have their pros and cons. I personally prefer Washington DC because I find it to be cleaner and it just has a nicer feel to it with all the tree lined streets and all the parks in the area. New York City is also great, it's the famous all American city, it's certainly a place everyone should visit at least once. I don't think I could I live there, it's just so expensive and crowded but it's a great place to visit.

If you like history, museums, politics and recreation visit DC.

If you like BIG cities, lot's of culture and nightlife, visit NYC.

In my opinion, they're both worth a visit. I'd recommend visiting New York City in winter, near Christmas because it's a fun place to be at that time. I'd recommend visiting DC in spring or late summer / early fall.
