  1. My step daughter informs me that the Canon EOS 5D is an excellent camera.  More mega pixels and higher grade camera.

  2. As said by one poster, that's kind of subjective. The 5D is the more expensive and more professional camera. You'll also find that the 5D performs better.

However, one advantage of the 40D is that it's smaller and lighter. Another advantage of the 40D is that it has the 1.6x crop factor so you'll get more for your money with a telephoto lens. A lens that is 300mm on the 5D will appear to be 480mm on the 40D. The flip side of that is that it's hard to get a decent wide angle on the 40D (18mm turns into 29mm).

  3. Quite obviously, the 5d Is the better camera..

this is a semi-professional camera, but it's the most semi-professional you can get before you get a professional camera, costing thousands of dollars. This is a very nice camera, and it doesn't have a flash, which is a professional trait. However, on other cameras, like the 40d, they come with a build in flash. Also, there are pretty big differenced between them. Especially, the price, size, and image quality.

the canon 5d has twelve megapixels, and the 40d only has ten, and that's a considerable difference in digital SLR photography. The 5d is more than one thousand dollars more expensive, and you get what you pay for, did you ever hear that saying? The 5d is just a much better camera.

Also, it has a full frame sensor, which has many advantages, one advantage is a wider-glance in the view finder, and you can get more into frame, it's like a 35mm film SLR camera, it's just digital. The canon EOS 5d is used by starting professionals. This is a really nice camera, with a heck of a lot more features.

  4. Hands down, the 5D. Both are solid cameras, however, the 5D is much better. Full frame, 12 mega pixels, better noise at high ISO speeds; it's a no-brainer.

  5. It really depends on your needs.  If you're a semipro and want really nice pictures and don't need a super professional camera to with the 40d.  Its smaller, and has live view.  Although, if you're going to be serious enough to make a living off your photos and have a demand for a few more pixels, better shutter life, better build quality, weatherproofing, and full frame, then the 5d may be a better investment.  Although, rumor has it that the 5d may be replaced soon so the price may drop.  The 5d also doesn't have auto sensor cleaning so you may get some dust on your sensor and will have to clean it.  Assess your needs on how serious you are going to get and decide which is a better investment.
