  1. i prefer cats, but dogs are cool too

  2. Neither is better. They are two very different animals, and both have their pros and cons.

Dogs are smart. They can learn tons of tricks, and even compete in dog sports like agility, frisbee, and flyball. They are more of a "family pet" - a dog can go almost anywhere with you - on walks, to the park, on camping trips, on dog-friendly vacations. They have more energy and want to work with you - if you want a hiking or jogging companion, get a dog. They are very loving and affectionate and just love being with people.

They are also much more high-maintenance than cats. They need walked at least three or four times daily, given exercise, and given toys to provide mental stimulation, not to mention the huge amount of training - housetraining, chewtoy-training, crate-training, recall-training, etc - and socialization dog owners have to go through in order to have a good dog. They also need a strict feeding and walking schedule, and generally take more time to groom and keep clean. Dogs cannot cope i you are away for long periods of time, and you have to go through the hassle of finding a kennel for them. When not properly trained, dogs can become barkers, diggers, chewers, or biters.

Cats are smart too - just not in the same way. They are intelligent and affectionate, though they generally have to have some "alone time". There is virtually no training involved with cats, as they are naturally very clean. They don't need walked or kept on a schedule, and they usually can find their own form of exercise. Most are very affectionate and enjoy being petted and curling up in a lap.

There are not really any tricks you can reliably teach a cat, and they have to stay home most of the time - they can't come on walks in the park with you. They can be a little lazy sometimes - content to sleep the day away - and sometimes bite or scratch when they want to be left alone. Some cats develop bad habits like meowing or scratching furniture. Some male cats - especially unneutered ones - will spray (urine-mark) your house to mark their territory.

I think both make great pets, as long as they are loved and cared for properly.

  3. I prefer dogs as they are always happy to see you, want to play, need exercise, etc., when it comes to cats, most are lazy, dont want to be bothered with, and generally a boring animal, needless to say i still own 4 of them

  4. like dogs win hands down. they meet ya at the door with the biggest l**k and are so happy to see ya no matter what. they follow you everywhere like a great pal and are always wagging their tails. you can play wrestle on the bed and run around the block with them and they love it. you can take them everywhere with you as they love to stick their heads out the car windows and go crazy when you have  day out at the beach. can you do that with a cat???? nooooo

  5. i have both but it depends on how old of a dog or cat you have what life style you have if you are a home bady and live alone i would rather have a dog they are like haveing another person there to "talk "to but if you live alone and are never home then mefinatly a cat you dont need to worry about getting home right on time or finding a mess on your new living room rug! it all a matter of prefferance spend some time at your local shelter to make sure you get what you want rember there are alot of dogs and cats in need of great homes

  6. I prefer a dog to a cat. the pooch has a more useful purpose , it alerts you of possible danger but they require more attention as cats are cooler & not nearly as needy , in fact I'm not sure anyone actually owns a cat more like the cat owns them . LOL . I like the idea of my dogs greeting me w/ them tails-a-waggin everyday.

  7. It's a question that has plagued mankind since the idea of letting an animal live with you as part of the family. The age old question of whether a cat makes a better pet than a dog which already claims the title of "Man's Best Friend." In this article I am not expecting to answer this question. I think that when it's all boiled down the only answer is a personal one. Each person makes their own decision of what makes a better pet based on their own personal preferences. Some people don't like dogs or cats, some like both; it all depends on who is talking.

So let's take a look at some of the pros and cons of each animal.

The Dog: A dog may indeed claim the title of "Man's Best Friend" but that is really only true for certain dogs. Not certain breeds, but certain dogs. One might have two Dobermans and Spike may be as sweet as ice cream while Rufus tries to rip the limbs off anyone he sees. Of course some people prefer the violence over the ice cream if they are seeking a guard dog. However a family with children should probably avoid Rufus. That is one of the downsides to a dog. They seriously hurt someone if they are not trained nor have a bad temperament.

Another thing that could be a downside is how much larger breeds can eat. Big dogs require a lot of food, although for one who likes them it isn't a big issue. Smaller dogs won't eat as much but tend to make a lot more noise. They seem to live with a flow of extra caffeine in their blood.

The up-side to dogs however is that they are great protectors. Most canines will usually love you no matter what and are loyal.

The Cat: Cats are a much safer choice than dogs because they can't really hurt anyone; especially if they are de-clawed. The downside to cats however is that they need litter boxes. Those require a lot of maintenance and usually smell quite bad. Some cats also have a tendency to urinate in dark corners where you can't find it, but you can smell it. If a cat isn't spayed or neutered it is extremely annoying during the time that nature calls for them to seek a mate. They wander the house howling or try to escape in every way possible.

  8. Hi,

i prefair dogs only because they protect you.Unlike  a cat that just around your feet for food lol,but they are great too.I have cats n dogs:).

  9. A cat

Cat's are self-reliant.  Dogs are not.

    Lovingly,

    Mom

  10. well i would say a Dog

  11. Cats by far! They purr and rub up against you, and knead you! They also are more delicate, dainty, and less clumsy than dogs. You don't need to get a pet sitter for them when you go away, because they can keep themselves entertained, they are soft, playful, and oh so cute!

  12. We live aboard a boat. We have two cats.

I think that the reason we chose cats was their lack of needs. They do not 'need' walks. They do not need to go to shore for the toilet, they have kitty litter. They do not need heart worm tablets.

They are 15 years old and are spoilt.

How long do you think your pet will live? A long  time. Your life may change. Moving home or marriage means that your pet needs to go too. They do not disappear when you are weary of caring for them. They feel pain and joy.

No matter which one you choose, they give love.

    Byeee

  13. The answer would depend on your needs as a pet owner.

Do you have a yard, or do you like to go walking every couple of hours? If not, a cat would be better for you.

Do you mind scooping cat litter? Are you okay with the fact that some cats are aloof? If not, perhaps you would be better off with a dog.

Do you leave your home for long periods of time? If so, a dog can be a hassle, you have to board it or have someone take care of it, while a cat can be left with food and water and a litter box and be okay for up to a week or so.

Cats don't bark at cars going by or people knocking on doors... but they do sometimes scratch up furniture and pee on your pillow.

Dogs eat a lot and need way more exercise than cats.  And you can take a cat on an airplane in a kennel on your lap, but with dogs it would have to be a very very small dog to do that.

As for personalities, cats tend to be quieter and less hyper than dogs.

Then again, cats don't usually want to go hiking with you or get in the car to go to the grocery store at midnight.

It's all about what your lifestyle is like. I don't think there is one that is better than the other, just one that would fit with you better.

  14. dogs, they can protect you and are always happy to see you.

cats are all drag queens, however they do help keep the mice down around your house.

  15. i have a cat and love them but i want a dog so i cant decide
