  1. Simple answer-- if you spend $100  on your amp ;and $10 on your speakers it will sound like $10.

Good speakers give good sound to your system, but you have to have the right amount of power to drive the speakers.

A long time ago the standard was to spend 1/3 of your money on the amp. and 2/3 on the speakers I don't know if this still holds true or not its been a  while  sence I bought any thing in this field.

  2. i agree with what the last person said.  why bother spending the money on an amp if your speakers aren't going to be able to produce the sound that the amp's putting out?  if you want advice on an amp i would very highly recommend the panasonic digital amps.  i've had the sa-xr55, 6.1 channel receiver for over a year and it's absolutely amazing.  the price is even better.  sure it's one of panasonic's bottom amps, but  at $220 it blows away pretty much anything under $500.
